Above: These Ilka radishes, sown from seeds saved from flower-heads on last season’s plants, and therefore no longer F1, have completely defied all previous records, not just for size, but also their smooth texture and juiciness.
Your garden posts impress me. You clearly have such a deep connection with growing things, the way you save seeds, adapt to the weather, and actually enjoy the whole process is really special. Those Norfolk Nectar strawberries look incredible. Thanks for sharing it all so generously.
Wow, love it. Would you mind visiting my blog at nyecountygardening.wordpress.com ? I can't get it to show up in search results, maybe if more people visit??
I love that you show the incredible food you made with it, not just the veggies. Few gardeners take the effort to do that. Love hedgies!
Interesting challenge you face! Have you tried deep beds? It focuses all cultivation within fixed bounds with permanent paths around the edge. The beds are ~5’ wide by however long. Best book is John Seymour’s Self Sufficient Gardener 1978 edition, still available on Amazon for about $10 in vgc. Best book I ever bought! By far.
Thanks for visiting, yes most people get confused when I tell them the soil is less than 1% organic matter. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check it out! I haven't tried deep beds, just getting started with some seedlings, a mulch pile, and a compost heap, and doing a little double-digging. I appreciate the resource, I need to learn new methods and try everything!
I would also not be without a wormery to recycle all my green waste from the kitchen. Way better than a compost heap. I have a compost heap, a leaf mould mix pile and three bins where old soil gets recycled with manure and leaves, because I want to become self sufficient in making my own general purpose potting compost. Project ongoing. 🤣

Always and as ever.

I want the hedgehog!
Did you find a way to keep the hedgehog out of your berries?
We had words. He/she listened.
Impressive. Not the answer I was expecting lol
That’s awesome 🤩
